Remember Hariri

A year ago, Rafic Hariri was killed in a terrorist attack. This devastated Lebanon and shocked the world. It triggered what was called the Cedar Revolution. HUGE demonstration all over the country, but it is in Beirut that hundreds of thousands of people gathered for weeks, crying for freedom. Syria and their proxy lebanese security services are accused of the murder. An international inquiry has been set up, and the invetigation continues. The situation is still very tense in Lebanon and prominent politicians and journalists - all very critical of Syria's occupation of Lebanon - have been murdered since. Let's hope the current pressure on Syria will continue and bring justice.

Il y a un an, Rafic Hariri fut tué lors d'un attentat. Cette nouvelle a abassourdi le Liban et choqué le monde. Cela a entraîné ce qu'on a appelé la révolution des Cèdres. D'immenses manifestations ont eu lieu dans tout le pays, mais c'est à Beyrouth que l'on verra des centaines de milliers de personnes manifester pendant des semaines pour réclamer justice. La Syrie et les services de sécurité libanais qui lui sont inféodé sont accusés du meurtre. Une commission d'enquête internationale a été mise sur pied, et l'enquête continue. La situation est toujours très tendue au Liban et des politiciens et journalistes critiques de l'occupation syrienne au Liban ont été assassinés. Espérons que les pressions sur la Syrie continueront et que justice sera rendue.

Donc, pour cette Saint Valentin, ayez une petite pensée pour ceux qui vous clameront leur amour.... de la liberté.
