Walk in the forest
At Epulu, one has the possibility walking in a primary forest. A primary forest - also called virgin forest - is an original forest, that is kept intact. It has neither been exploited, nor influenced by men.
Primary forest areas in the world are becoming scarce. They can mainly be found in three areas: Brazil, Indonesia and DRC.
We leave Epulu station and start trekking in the jungle. A guard accompanies us, as well as a pygmy who will be our guide today. There's no real path, we just go deeper and deeper into the forest.
Trees are immense, it's dark though we can observe all shades of green. We walk for two hours. We are aiming for a place where one is supposedly high enough to be able to observe the whole region. Nothing reallly exciting when we arrive, but it is a great feeling, trekking alone in this gigantic forest.
It will take us two hours to get back. We stop by Epulu river, get some rest and enjoy the scenery.
