Nile Perch
.
Lake Albert (like Lake Victoria) hosts the famous fish: the Capitaine - or Nile Perch. Those massive fish that can reach 2 metres long and weight up to 200 kgs are very popular in the region and Europe. The Nile Perch is a controversial fish. It is attributed with causing the complete or near-extinction of several hundreds of native species.
As I drive south, I encounter some guys on their moped with those massive fish along, coming from Lake Albert, heading to Bunia. With fish sold at 5 usd/kgs on the market, if they are not racketed too much by military on the road, it’s quite a profitable business.
Whether it arrives real fresh is another story...
