The Temple of Nagda
.
It takes us 6 hours to reach Udaipur. As we get closer we visit a superb temple at Nagda. The 11th century Jain temple of Abudji is well preserved and contains a 15th century black-marble idol of tirhankar Shanti Nath. There are very fie ad intricate carvings with loads of erotic figures and postures. This is the most beautiful temple we’ve seen so far.

Very close is the village of Eklingji, that has a beautiful ancient temple complex. This Shiva temple with its 108 small shrines was originally built in 734, although its present form dates from the rule of Maharaja Raimal (15th century). Constructed from sandstone and marble, the walled complex has an elaborated pillared hall under a large pyramidal roof and features a four-faced Shiva image of black-marble. There are lots of pilgrims as we visit. We sit in the interior and observe the various prayers.
.
We have dinner at the Jagniwas Palace. On the terrace, one has superb views over the lake and the Lake Palace Hotel. The setting of the restaurant is nice, food is ok.
Tip: Rang Niwas Palace Hotel. Very nice rooms at the old building, 1800Rs (Breakfast not included)
Lots of tourists in Udaipur. Essential to book at least a day in advance for accommodation, and few hours before for a meal in recommended restaurants.
