Taking measures

One then does need to measure the child. This allow to check weight/height ratio and shall help define the level of malnutrition and appropriate treatment. Height must be acurately measured to allow a proper check of the evolution of the child's status....

A Severely malnourished child

This child is about to be measured. She's so scared she urinated all over. This child is acutely malnourished. If not treated urgently, she may die. This Community Therapeutic Centre nutrition programme aims at curing her in 4 weeks maximum.

Woman and her child

I am visiting once again a nutrition centre in Ituri. The photos I shall post in the coming days may shock some readers. Please feel free to skip the blog for few days if you want. We just think one also needs to be aware of the reality of malnutrition...

Smiles

Life is not easy in Congo. But despite an acute poverty and lack of good future prospects, smiles are what you're likely to encounter, almost everywhere you go. So if you live in a wealthy western country, just don't forget that there are people way poorer...
