Best fun at Expo 2020

Dubai itself is already filled with cheesy irresistible experiences; and at the Expo it was hard to compete with those. By fun, I mean experiences, out of the ordinary settings and interactivity.

I personally really enjoyed the Hungary pavillon, themed around water, showcasing the natural springs in the country and with an interactive wall. Their imitation of a bubble bath / hot spring is surprisingly inviting and I ended up falling in the pool of bubbles.

I had a lot of fun at the Terra pavillon, trying to catch clouds to collect water :-) but didn't have enough time to explore other parts of the pavillon. Walking through foggy Alps in the Switzerland pavillon was quite interesting, but not what I expected. The projections on the umbrellas in the Netherlands pavillon is an interesting idea and makes you contemplate the value of water.

The entrance to imposing Saudi Arabia pavilion was unexpected and much needed - a refreshing shower, that is if you're not talented at predicting water movements like myself.

The Germany pavillon had the longest queues and it is said to have attracted crowds thanks to individual swings in a controlled settings. But many people have said the experience was overrated. I have like better the over-the ceiling cinema a the Korean pavillon lying down on comfortable couches, it was a well deserved rest.

Of the many open access attractions at expo, the one that attracted people most was the Oasis. A huge plaza surrounded by vertical water scenery, complete with water movemement dancing to different tunes every 30 minutes. And of course you can remove your shoes, hop in and surf the wave, at your own risk.

A few pavillons were victims of their own success - like Luxembourg - I would have enjoyed the slide way better if I didn't have a 2 hour wait inside + a 45 min inside the pavillon, for an experience that lasted less than 1 minute!
