Oaxaca to Zacatecas

IMG_6346

During our travels, we rarely stay so long in a capital, let alone in a laid back city. But truth be told, Oaxaca is no usual city, it charmed us and made lots of promises, all of them fulfilled, except perhaps for the ‘mole’, the magic sauce that accompanies most dishes, that is definitely not to our taste. We spend some time visiting art galleries and exhibitions before packing and leaving to the airport. You guessed it right: we’re going to Zacatecas, where the feria lasts for two more days. Our flight to Mexico is delayed by 30 minutes, and although we land 30 minutes before our connecting flight departs, the pilot takes forever to park and we get down the plane 4 minutes before departure time. We run like we never did, and get to the gate but it’s already closed. Jeremie is in front with Noemie and lost his voice from the run. Finally someone sees us and asks if they can still let us in. The plane doors reopens and here we are, seated, just in time for departure!!

Zacatecas

Arrival in Zacatecas was smooth except that we don’t have our luggage of course but it will be delivered to our hotel the day after.

It’s already 9 pm but the music down the street gets us looking for action. We manage to get a quick and tasty bite, and gather with everyone else in front of the Palacio del Gobierno to listen to nice popular music dance in the middle of locals, dressed cowboy style, Mezcal bottles in hand or in their back pockets. A marvelous welcome!

Tips:

Taxi to the airport in Oaxaca costs around 120 pesos for a 35 minutes ride.

Taxi from the airport to Zacatecas costs 230 pesos.

Hotel in Zacatecas: Best Western Hotel. It definitely does not deserve its name: rooms are ugly and in serious need of renovation. The price, 95$ per night is expensive by Zacatecas standards but it’s also Feria time and all hotels are full. Although the location is unbeatable, you’re better off next door at the Santa Rita.
