Wandering around in Cali

After a superb breakfast on our hotel’s terrace, we wander around in town. It’s Sunday and the city is very quiet. Among the city’s architecture highlight is the Church of San Francisco. Closeby is the Cathedral. We arrive on time for the Easter mass. The cathedral is full and we decide to stay until the end of the mass.

We continue discovering the city’s centre. There’s not much to see. The city is nice but one can’t say it’s particularly beautiful.

We head towards Cali’s hidden gem: its zoo. The zoo is located by the riverside and has over 270 animals of different species.

We are not so used visiting a zoo. We prefer animals in the wild than in cages. But the Zoologico de Cali is supposed to be the best zoo in Colombia, so we thought we'd give it a shot.

Cali zoo is a world class zoological facility, which provides a high standard of education for its visitors. One can find Colombia’s most endangered species, including Andean condor, pacarama, several species of guan and giant otters. There are snakes, flamingos, many different monkeys, butterflies, a sleepy lion, tigers, bears and many others species.

Tip of the day

Entry fee to the zoo is $ 7500. Don’t miss it, well worth it.

All taxis are metered and are cheap. (On Sundays and public holidays, $500 is added to the bill)
