Practicing Yoga

Boat_tripAfter a good night, I wake up at the sound of numerous species of birds singing near the Phewa Tal at 4:30 am. I try to sleep for a while but it doesn’t work. We order breakfast on the terrace with a superb view on the lake and the mountains. Then we go around  for a walk and take a small row boat for two hours. We stop in the middle of buffalos taking a fresh bath.

At noon, we go and meet our porterguide Bachan Rai. We explain what we expect from him, and other small details. He takes us to the ACAP office where we get our permits. We buy raincoats and hats and agree with a taxi to pick us up tomorrow near the Sacred Valley Inn. We then look for the Nepali Yoga Centre. After some time searching, we eventually find it with the help of the master’s mother. We’re ready for our first yoga experience. I have to buy large pants to be able to attend the session. The course starts on time, it is very calm and the master is performing all the imaginable positions and their very unpronounceable names. We are very calm, yet not daring look at each other; otherwise we would both break up the “concentration”. The Yoga session succeeds in getting our “awareness outside our bodies” and the concentration of our breathing style. At some point, we need to lie down for a long time, where the focus was on the length of our exhalation. Suddenly I hear a strange sound: Jérémie has started SNORING!!! Jérémie got so relaxed (and probably not enough rest yet) and fell asleep. The master’s also noticed it and tries to find ways to wake him up, which he eventually succeeds. It is the end. We go out and have a crazy laugh about it all. But it was relaxing. We have dinner at the Boomerang, and watch a traditional dance and show. The food is not great though.
