Next trip - Prochain voyage

We've made up our minds. Our next trip will be to... India. Given the weather should not be great in the south we'll focus on Rajasthan. Here are some photos on how it looks like. Hope we'll be able to take some as beautiful as those ones... We leave in just one month!!!!!

Football?? a passion....

Okay, football is not just about money. Millions of people are passionate with the game. But i's still a mistery to me how much people can talk about it, analize this and that, criticize any single move, praise this guy and hate another, and this for hours, days, years... Okay, I admit the game can be entertaining and the ambiance between supporters in Germany gives great moments. But c'mon guys, this whole thing is now all about money, marketing, ads. And it's getting worse by the years. A pity other sports (like Rugby)... [Lire la suite]

A beautiful day - Notre anniversaire

That was already two years ago. Time flies... Two years ago, on a beautiful sunny day, we got married in Lebanon. Friends and family were there. It was a truly beautiful moment. Since then, we moved around quite a lot: Sudan, Indonesia, Chile, several countries in Africa, etc. But our heart still is in Lebanon. With great memories of this magic day. C'est il y a deux ans déjà. Comme le temps passe... Il y a deux ans, par une magnifique journée d'été, nous nous marrions au Liban. La famille et nos amis étaient là. Ce fut un... [Lire la suite]

Mambassa’s gospel

Yesterday’s evening was a gift. Far from expected, but I guess that’s always like this in Congo. I went for two days in Mambassa, a small city in western Ituri. I stayed at the catholic mission, run by several foreign priests. It is a huge compound, including a health centre, a school, professional training classes, and… a church. I make the encounter of the priest in charge, an old Italian, who welcomes me. Late afternoon, whilst I am having a discussion with some humanitarian staff in the living room, he suddently comes... The Utility of Force

The Utility of Force: The Art of War in the Modern World, by General Sir Rupert Smith Rupert Smith is an understated and thoughtful general who has very good reason to be critical of both governmental and public attitudes towards the employment of force in international affairs. He retired in 2002, and this book is a distillation of his experience, which was varied and rough. At least twice in his military career, in Bosnia in 1995 and Kosovo in 1999, he was in a position of high responsibility, having to act on behalf of... [Lire la suite]

Above Lake Edward - Au dessus du lac Edward

In the Great lakes region, there are... great lakes! Whilst flying to Ituri from Goma (where Jeremie is once again going this week), one can see the superb Lake Edward, south of lake Albert but north of Lake Kivu!

The Shackled Continent: Africa's Past, Present and Future

The Shackled Continent: Africa's Past, Present and Future, by Robert Guest Africa is the only continent to have grown poorer over the last three decades. Why? The Shackled Continent seeks to diagnose the sickness that continues to hobble Africa's development. Using reportage, first hand experience and economic insight, Robert Guest takes us to the roots of the problems. Two fifths of African nations are at war, AIDS has lowered life expectancy to as young as forty years old and investment is almost impossible as houses... [Lire la suite]

I know what you think.....  we're crazy with numbers.... actually, not really... (mmmh just like when we said we were not football fanatics but we are following the worldcup afterall....) In less than 4 months, more than 10,000 people visited our blog. That's great, we were not expecting so many people would be interested in this. We've received numerous messages - on the blog and by email - from people all over the world (btw, 2 new countries appeared since last time - Afghanistan and Senegal). The original purpose of...
