On the way to Yangshuo - DAY 14

It's unfortunately time to move on from Xichuangbanna, as we wish to have some time to discover Guangxi, another region of China.  We manage to secure a same day flight to its main city Guilin. Planes are full so we travel business class this time. En route we stop by Kunming. We wander through the animals and flower market. Once again, we enjoy the Chinese creativity of making use of everything. The voyage comes almost to its end and time for shopping approaches... We fall for some very nice decorative stuff that will probably transform our African house into some kind of Chinese mansion... We give another try to the very famous Kunming 'Across the bridge' noodles, but it turns out not to be exactly what we expected (though still very tasty). We head to a famous Chinese tea house where we spend hours tasting all different kinds of tea and tea flavoured food products. We end up with a big bag full of exotic teas: Rose, Chrysanteneum, Ginseng, and a fantastic Jasmin. We catch our late afternoon flight and arrive to a freezing Guilin (temperature of 4 degrees, quite a shock after the 30 degrees of this morning!). We finally encounter what could be awarded the worst restaurant of this part of the world. We will not elaborate on the quality of the food served but we come back to our hotel with an empty stomach.

C'est malheureusement le moment de quitter le Xichuangbanna, car nous souhaitons avoir un peu de temps pour découvrir Guangxi, une autre région de Chine. Les avions sont pleins mais nous réussissons cependant à trouver deux places pour Guilin. Alors nous voyageons en première classe cette fois-ci. Nous faisons un stop à Kunming. On va se ballader au marché des animaux et des fleurs. On découvre une fois de plus toute la diversité de ces marchés fourre-tout. Nous partons à la recherche une fois de plus des fameuses Nouilles aux dessus du Pont, la spécialité locale, une sorte de soupe dans laquelle on fait cuire toute sorte d'aliments (à la manière d'une fondue). Ce n'est pas exactement ce que nous recherchions mais cela s'avère quand même très bon. Nous passons la fin de l'après midi dans un magasin de thé réputé de la ville. Après de multiples essais, nous repartons avec des sacs entiers de thé aussi variés que à la rose, chrysanthème, ginseng et un excellent jasmin. Il est temps de retourner à l'aéroport pour reprendre un avion qui nous mène à Guilin. Les températures sont glaciales, à peine 4 degrés, soit une différence notable après les 30 degrés de ce matin ! Nous dinons dans un restaurant qui meriterait d'être qualifié comme le pire de cette partie du monde. Pour la pemière fois depuis notre arrivée, nous laissons nos assiettes vides et rentrons le ventre vide à notre hotel.
